Stockholm and Uppsala, Sweden, 24 Aug 1984

During my 1984 stay in Denmark, I took a trip on the overnight Copenhagen-Stockholm train for a day in Stockholm. I'd ridden a Lyntog from Viborg, near Karup Air Base, to Copenhagen and connected to the train to Stockholm.

I've sorted the Stockholm photos by subject with general views of the city, the Royal Palace and the changing of the guard, and railroads all together.

In late afternoon, I took a commuter train (the 24th was a Friday) to Uppsala, site of the cathedral where Swedish monarchs are crowned. Unlike Stockholm, which was cloudy all day, I had beautiful light in Uppsala and shot a steady parade of trains in the low light. I remember napping on the train to Uppsala...I must have been tired after a night sleeping in a coach and then wandering around the city all day.

I arrived back in Stockholm after dark and took a few night photos before boarding the overnight train back to Copenhagen.

I could go to Sweden as I had a passport. The people on our deployment who just had NATO orders could not visit Sweden as it is not a NATO member. Later, our unit gave us all government employee (burgundy) passports, but it had not yet in 1984.
